Background & experience

Pritesh is the founder of IPZEAL. He is a registered Patent Attorney in Australia and New Zealand and a registered Trade Mark Attorney in Australia, with over 16 years of experience in intellectual property. His career spans early experience at the Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand (IPONZ) and many subsequent years in private practice at well-known IP firms in Australasia, where he has held senior IP roles and also been a Partner in one of them. 

Pritesh has advised a broad range of clients, from first time founders and growing businesses through to universities and multinational companies. He has worked directly with inventors and companies based in New Zealand, Australia, Europe, the United States, China, and other international markets, managing patent and design portfolios and helping businesses navigate IP globally. He has been involved with a number of startups early in their journey, some of which have gone on to become successful companies.

He has extensive experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications in both New Zealand and Australia, as well as managing international filings. His work includes advising on patentability and freedom to operate, and assisting with oppositions, revocation matters, and IP disputes. He also has experience representing clients in hearings. Being an ex-Patent Examiner at IPONZ gives him a practical understanding of how applications are examined, allowing him to approach matters from both an Examiner and Patent Attorney perspective and position applications for a stronger chance of successful prosecution.

His technical background spans mechanical engineering, electronics, software, robotics, fintech, and AI, and he also advises on design protection as part of a broader IP strategy.

Pritesh works closely with clients to help them treat IP as more than just protection. For Pritesh, IP is a valuable business asset that can support growth, attract investment, strengthen market position, and create long term advantage when used properly.

Clients value Pritesh for his down to earth and practical approach. He is easy to deal with, explains things clearly, and gives honest advice without overcomplicating matters or pushing unnecessary work. He takes the time to understand what clients are trying to achieve and works alongside them to get there in a sensible and efficient way.

Outside of work

Pritesh enjoys cycling and is a keen world traveller who has travelled extensively across Europe, Asia and the Americas.  An IP enthusiast even while on a holiday, he once took a day trip from Zurich to Geneva just to see World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO). He enjoys discovering new places, good food, and different ways people build and grow things.

Academic Qualifications

In addition to being a registered Patent Attorney in Australia and New Zealand, and Registered Trade Mark Attorney in Australia, Pritesh also holds the following qualifications:

• Bachelor of Engineering with Honours in Mechatronics (Massey University)
• Master of Engineering in Mechatronics (Massey University) 
• Bachelor of Laws (University of Auckland)

Other Affiliations

Pritesh is a Fellow of New Zealand Intellectual Property Attorneys Inc, and a member of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property, the Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys of Australia, and the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand.

He regularly attends industry seminars and is a regular attendee of the AIPPI World Congress.
